A Taste of Scandinavia

I’ll start this off by saying that travelling within the Schengen area is always so mind blowing for me. At least in Bordeaux, they only ask for your boarding pass before letting you through to security. As a person from the US, it surprises me every time. I have a feeling when I get back to the states I’ll be annoyed with the process for getting through security (luckily I still have TSA pre check for a few years so at least I won’t have to take off my shoes) And going from Copenhagen to Stockholm and then Oslo, I never needed to show my passport at any point.

This trip was super exciting from the start because I knew the majority of it was going to be me reuniting with friends. In Copenhagen, I met up with Pang, who I had originally met in Edinburgh. My time in Copenhagen was short, I landed around 1300 on Thursday and then left Friday at 1400. Despite the short timeline, I feel like I managed to see a good amount of the city . Thursday, I met Pang at a cafe where we tried a famous dessert before walking around the city and eventually making our way to dinner (in our friendship, we’ve eaten four meals together and three of them were Thai/Asian; the other was bfast) Our dinner was full of conversations and me spilling some water (typical) and before I knew it we had to go our separate ways for the night. Back at my hostel, I met two new friends before heading to bed so I could have an early start the next day. Friday morning, I was up and out of my hostel by 0815, making my way towards the little mermaid statue. The walk took 45 minutes and I was even warned that the statue would be underwhelming but I still enjoyed myself. I got to see Nyhavn, the opera house, and other cool buildings on my walk, which made for a more enjoyable experience. On top of that, the sun was out!! I returned to my hostel and met up with one of friends from the previous night so we could head off to the airport together. For lunch, I had a bomb mushroom burger (idk if I enjoyed it so much cause it was mushrooms or it was my first meal of the day) before setting off to Stockholm.

Stockholm was even more of a whirlwind than Copenhagen. I landed around 1545 and then had to go get settled at my hostel before meeting up with another friend from Edinburgh at 1700. We walked to Ikea (I can check visit a true Swedish Ikea off my bucket list) and then she showed me around the city some more before we went to meet two other friends that I had met in Prague. Together we ate dinner and caught up before going to a handful of bars. While we were walking, it started snowing which was so great (it’s been a few years since I’ve actually experienced a snowfall). We finished our night at a popular Swedish fast food chain and I had some tasty vegetarian nuggets. Saturday morning I met Matilda (from Edinburgh) again for breakfast. The previous nights snow had turned into ice so I will admit I was scared walking around but I made it without falling or slipping (woooo) We had a chill, but very enjoyable, morning. Sadly, sooner than I would’ve liked, I had to head to the airport for my 1545 flight to Oslo.
